Every time I watch Troll 2, the one important question that always goes through my head is…What ever happened to Brent?
Brent.
Portrayed by David McConnell,
Brent is one of Elliot’s merry men, looking for pussy in Nilbog; an almost impossible task as they don’t have coffee, nor very many females. However none of this seems to deter Brent. God bless him.
In my eyes, Brent is one of the luckiest guys in the Troll 2 universe. If you think about it, they never really say he died, he got to eat a lot of popcorn, AND he’s the closest of Elliot’s friends to getting laid. Yes, Arnold may have copped a feel with Cindy, that’s debatable. But Brent really gets some.
Kudos to you, Brent.
 You did me well.

Ghostbusters Halloween screenings! Spooky times with spooky friends

Last night was a frightening one, folks. For it was Halloween, and all the ghouls and goblins were out there, asking for not BLOOD, but CANDY. This year I asked for neither; I asked for Ghostbusters. Me and a couple of friends ventured out to the nearest theater, played the hell out of Snk Vs. Capcom and Ninja Assault down at the arcade (got the high score on Ninja Assault for the day to boot) and even got a free bag of chips from Cinema 1, because the lady was a big fan of mine.
AT LAST the previews had started. I had seen a trailer for the new Muppets movie and I love Jim Henson so much, and it felt good seeing puppets, because I can't stand CG, that I think I will see it when it comes out.
SWEET JESUS, the ACTUAL MOVIE HAS STARTED. I'M LOOKING AT IT WITH MY EYEBALLS AND I'M LAUGHING. THAT VENKMAN GUY IS FUNNY. THE EFFECTS IN THIS MOVIE STILL HOLD UP REALLY NICELY.
It had been about a year since the last time I had seen Ghostbusters, and I always feel good watching it, so watching it with an audience of fans was even better!
Did anybody else go see it at their local theater? What did you think? What was your favourite line that Rick Moranis said?

Seven Samurai

Fifty-seven years.
In 1954, Akira Kurosawa’s epic ‘Seven Samurai’ was releases in theatres. In 57 years this film still remains culturally important today. Some say the single greatest Japanese film ever made. And it’s hard to disagree with them.
From the start of this movie, even as the opening credits were rolling, I was, with a lack of better words, flabbergasted by the beauty of this film; this thing is pretty. The silhouetted, sun-backlit figures look like paintings in the opening scene. And the landscapes felt very authentic. I could almost smell the campfires.
Seven Samurai is perfect. For a movie of three hours, I felt like it could have gone on another three and I wouldn’t be complaining as it had a great pace and timing.
I could go on another 10 pages just gushing over the setup, but what I’d like to wrap this up with is what I took from this film; How do you judge a man’s value? Is a poor farmer’s heart not as rich as that of a wealthy man? Is the love of a farmer for a samurai to be judged? And in the end, who won the battle?
Kurosawa is a revolutionist, raising the bar of cinema, so that future films, even 57 years from his creation, can capture the audience in epic storytelling. The legendary samurai live on.

A LACK OF UPDATES! A PODCAST ON THE HORIZON!

I want to apologize for the lack of updates. But I assure you that things will be in full swing in only a matter of time. School work…lots of school work. What a downer eh?
In other news though, expect a podcast soon! hear me and somewhat special guests talk about stuff! What a treat! You’ll love it! I’ll make you love it! Love it so much…..
This weekend I’m going to try to watch a movie. Let’s say Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai for the moment.
Until next time.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger

The latest series of Super Sentai is around its 30th episode now, and my impression of the series thus far is quite highly. Our band of outer space pirates are on a quest for the greatest treasure in the universe, while picking up Ranger Keys along the way. The ranger Keys allow them to transform into any of the 35 Sentai series rangers (making for tons of fan service.) Now all your favourite squads can comingle with each other in beautiful Sentai harmony. Yay.

So far in the series, we’ve seen appearances from former cast members of SPD, Gingaman, Hurricaneger, and even Jetman. Not to mention the two movies that have been released that feature TONS of guests. This series is shaping up to be one of my favourite Super Sentai’s yet; it’s really perfect and getting tons of praise in Japan. The cast for this series are a really good bunch of characters that really complete each other. Even when they introduced the special “Silver Ranger,” Ikari Gai, he turned out to be a great addition from the start! (Although I must say, I’m not a fan of the design of Gold Mode.) I’m really looking forward to how this show will progress and wrap up as I already make my predictions to what will happen to certain characters and events. This show is defiantly a highlight in the Sentai Universe.

Blood Pumping Karaoke Music

More recently, Frank Howley (youtuber and comrade of various comedy groups like MEGA64 and The Midnight Show) has created a band with friend Matthew Bruce; The Vampires. The Vampires are a Karaoke Party Pop band, a genre made famous by such artists as Best Fwends, Totally Michael, and even Hush Hush.

What exactly is Karaoke Party Pop? The best definition would be original Pre-recorded music (sometimes covers of songs if not the actual song itself) sung and danced to by maniacs on stage. Live shows rely on a lot of energy from the band and crowd. Interaction is a big part of the show, and The vampires are no different.

The Vampires’ first show at the Waterloo Station Cafe in Mission Viejo, CA. Was composed of dancing, screaming, hilarious jokes and pizza. Performing such hit songs as Fukkireta, Fireflies (sung by cats and dogs) and my personal favourite, We Like Pizza by The Pizza Kids.

People may question if this is real music or not. I believe, just like punk, it’s about having fun, and feeling the electricity. The Vampires’ show was about friends getting together and having a party, kinda like playing Rock Band with friends at a party. In a way it fuses a comedy act with a concert, as you’re encouraged to get up to laugh and scream.

The Vampires are the liveliest undead band you’ll ever meet. Check out the entire show on youtube, and be sure to sing along. If The Vampires ever come to my town, I’ll be sure to be first in line.
